Daniel Zelwick needed just 80
pitches to beat Reno in the first
game, scattering six hits in a 6-0
complete-game shutout.
Zelwick walked two batters and
struck out nine, a season high, for
his third win of the fall.
The Rebels did all of their scoring
in the last two innings, starting
with two runs in the fifth.
E.J. Stanton drew a one-out walk,
stole second base, advanced to third
on a flyout to center by Zelwick and
scored on an errant throw by the
shortstop. Lance Zazueta then
singled and scored on another Reno
error.
In the sixth, Storm Lewis singled,
Jeff Watson walked and Lewis scored
after consecutive passed balls,
which brought Watson to third base.
Stanton ripped a run-scoring single
to score Watson, stole second,
advanced to third again on a Zelwick
flyout and scored on a wild pitch.
Zazueta kept the rally going with a
one-out double. He took third on a
wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice
fly by Simon Villalvazo.
Zelwick struck out three straight
Reno batters looking to finish the
game.
Modesto Ramirez and Zazueta were
each 2-for-3 for the Rebels and
Stanton scored twice.
