Rebels Split With Chico

By Paul Gadbois

The Red Bluff Rebels 18-and-under fall American Legion baseball team split a doubleheader with the visiting Chico Suns on Friday, winning the opener, 12-11, and dropping the second game, 7-4.

Red Bluff 12, Chico 11

Andrew Lish's pinch-hit single in the bottom of the seventh drove in Lance Zazueta for the game-winning run in Red Bluff's 12-11 seesaw victory in the first game.
The lead changed sides a total of five times, but after giving up three runs in the top of the seventh to fall behind, the Rebels battled back to win it.
E.J. Stanton singled to start the rally, Zazueta reached base on a passed ball with one out and Simon Villalvazo doubled to tie the game, bringing Stanton around to score. Lish batted in place of Trevor Rau and worked a full count before delivering the game-winning hit.
Villalvazo homered in the third inning and finished 3-for-4 with six runs batted in and two scored to lead the Rebels' 12-hit parade. Zazueta was 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI, Ramon Barajas singled home two runs, Stanton scored three times and Zelwick doubled and scored twice.
Rebels starter Gerald Baker gave up two earned runs on five hits in four innings, but did not earn the decision despite a solid start. Rau yielded five runs in two relief innings and Zelwick finished the game, getting a blown save and the victory.
He entered the game ahead 10-9 and gave up three unearned runs on two hits, but Red Bluff's offense trumped its defense in the end to survive Chico's final rally.
