Friday, April 4 - Red Bluff vs. Pleasant Valley
|
The Red Bluff varsity baseball team gave up two runs in the first, second and
third innings, and got buried by a Pleasant Valley avalanche in the sixth,
losing 14-0 at home. The Spartans committed four errors, and five pitchers surrendered a total of 14 hits to the Vikings, who remained undefeated in Eastern Athletic League play at 6-0 while Red Bluff fell to 3-1, half a game behind second-place Foothill in the EAL standings. Spartans starter E.J. Stanton was pulled after three batters, as he hit the first batter of the game, walked the second and gave up a RBI double. Ben Redfield gave up six hits over three innings of relief work, allowing four runs (three earned), and Simon Villalvazo worked the fourth and fifth innings without allowing an earned run. But by the time Jeff Watson took over in the sixth, the Spartans were trailing 7-0 and had only managed two hits against Vikings starter Taylor Johnson. Watson hit three batters and gave up three runs (two earned) without a hit, and Josh Penne labored through the remainder of the inning. Robby Annis doubled in the second inning but was thrown out at third on a fielder's choice. After back-to-back walks loaded the bases, Penne grounded into a double play to end the Spartans' lone offensive threat. Daniel Zelwick's two-out single in the fifth was the team's only other hit. The Spartans (3-1 EAL, 13-2) will try to regroup on the road Tuesday versus Shasta. They also host Oroville on Friday, April 11 at 7 p.m. |
