Saturday, March 22 - vs. McKinleyville (second game, 2:30 p.m.)
| A seven-run first inning was too much for
McKinleyville, as the Spartans got off to a fast start in the second
game and never quit, winning 12-2 in six innings. Stanton started on the hill and gave up a pair of unearned runs on one hit, pitching three solid innings for the victory. Penne came in from right field to relieve and finished the game, tossing three shutout frames on two hits for his first save of the season. Penne and Stanton each struck out five hitters while walking only one. Red Bluff sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first, and Chris Jones led it off with a sharp single to left. Penne bunted for a hit and a late throw sailed into foul territory, scoring Jones and allowing Penne to advance two bases. Sandow hit a sacrifice fly to center, plating Penne, and Villalvazo cracked a one-out hit to keep the rally alive. Josh Thompson sacrificed Villalvazo to second and Gappa lined a single into left for a run batted in. Redfield also singled, Stanton walked to load the bases and Jones belted a three-run double to score everyone, giving Red Bluff a sudden 7-0 advantage. A few defensive mistakes allowed McKinleyville to score a pair in the third inning, but Red Bluff mounted a four-run rally in the fifth just to be safe. Redfield reached on an error to lead it off, Jeremy Altmann singled and with two outs and Penne singled to load the bases. Sandow turned his shoulder on a pitch high and tight, taking one for the team to force home a run, and Altmann scored on a wild pitch. Villalvazo lofted a ball into no-man's land in shallow right-center for a two-run single, but was thrown out at second base on the play to end the inning with Red Bluff ahead 11-2. Red Bluff enforced the 10-run rule in the sixth. Josh Thompson opened the inning with a single and courtesy runner Daniel Zelwick took second on a wild pitch. Redfield walked and pinch-hitter Robby Annis lashed a line drive into left field to load the bases for Altmann, who followed suit with another hard-hit single to win the game. The Spartans clubbed a total of 16 hits, led by Villalvazo's 3-for-4 performance. Altmann, Redfield, Jones and Penne all had two hits and Sandow finished with a pair of RBI. The Spartans (11-1) host Springfield (Ore.) at 6:30 p.m. Monday night and return to Eastern Athletic League action on Friday with a road trip to Enterprise.
